The Last Ride of Peggy

FRUITLAND -- Peggy Pusey could
hardly hold back the tears as she listened to driving instructor and
secretary Tammy Wheatley talk about the sad news heard from her boss
just a few days ago.
Pusey told her six employees that her business, Peggy Pusey's Driving
School, would close its doors forever after almost 45 years this
weekend. Wheatley, with misting eyes, had been here for seven years and
said that hers was not a "normal job."
"Peggy is like my grandmother and she means so much to me," Wheatley
said, her voice breaking.
It seems like just yesterday that Pusey stood in her horse pasture,
which also served as a driving range, having her photo taken for a
newspaper story in 1966. When she opened, she was the first woman
instructor in Wicomico County and the second driving school business in
the county at the time. [READ
